BMSVision, the Charlotte, N.C.-based U.S., affiliate of Belgian Monitoring Systems, is a leading supplier of manufacturing execution system for the U.S. textile industry. But over the last five years, MES systems for the plastics industry have grown, and now account for half of the company’s sales.
BMSVision officials said major U.S. plastics companies use the BMS PlantMaster system for day-to-day management of operations, including Roechling automotive, Stihl Inc., Sterilite Corp. and Tupperware Brands Corp.
PlantMaster is easily integrated with the customer’s enterprise reporting software program, through a standard interface, according to BMSVision.
Now BMS has launched version 8.00 of its PlantMaster MES. The new DU11 offers a new operator interface featuring a seven-inch touch screen and an intuitive, web-based user interface. Besides traditional MES functions such as operator log-on, stop declaration and scrap entry, the DU11 visualizes setup documents, quality and maintenance instructions.
Configurable “dashboards” visualize important key performance indicators, such as scrap rates, overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) and machine efficiencies. A new feature allows a PlantMaster user to create formulas and reports without the need for any database or programming knowledge.
Once the MES helps schedule the jobs, a set of reports is generated for planning, production and setup crew.
One new feature for PlantMaster: a touch-screen data collection terminal, called TSDU.
BMSVision also offers an EnergyMaster module for PlantMaster that integrates energy consumption data—electricity, gas, compressed air, water, steam, effluent and carbon dioxide emissions—together with other MES applications such as scheduling, machine and process monitoring.
The user can prepare customized reports showing, for example, energy consumption over time, and under different conditions. Exceptional energy consumption can trigger automatic alerts via email or text message, allowing for technicians to quickly solve the problem.
