The outlook for 2013 for North American compounders is featured in this week's Material Insights video. Compounding executives contacted by Plastics News for this week's annual special report on compounding reported decent sales growth for 2012, but also said they were concerned about 2013. 2012 growth was tied to a resurgence in automotive and construction markets, while the "fiscal cliff" in the U.S. and economic slowdowns in Europe and Asia are reasons for concern next year. News of a second round of funding for alternate feedstock technology also is featured in this week’s video. The funding has been given to the CAT Catalytic Center in Aachen, Germany, which is finding ways to use carbon dioxide as an alternative building block for plastics. The video wraps up with a look at MBA Polymers Inc., a recycler that’s been named to the Going Green Silicon Valley Global 200. Richmond, Calif.-based MBA now joins other firms on that list that are likely to disrupt existing players in green technology.
