MONTREAL (Nov. 26, 11:35 a.m. ET) — Borche North America is reporting brisk injection press sales since it debuted its machines to North America at NPE in April.

“Since NPE we have sold 13 machines and 32 more are in the pipeline,” said Borche North America President Larry Mermuys in an interview at Borche North America’s booth at Expoplast12.

Borche North America is a Hamilton, Ontario-based subsidiary of Chinese injection press maker Borch Machinery Co. Ltd. — the companies spell their names differently.

Mermuys also runs Hamilton-based injection molder Plastics Plus Inc.

Mermuys said the Borche North America’s Los Angeles warehouse is gearing up to continually house 20 to 30 machines ready for delivery in North America in a week to 10 days notice.

Borche North America offers presses with clamps from 60 to 5,000 tons although 100- to 500-tonners have accounted for most sales.

“North America is [Borch’s] last frontier,” Mermuys said. “It’s a hard market to sell in because of the electrical and safety standards, but we can do it by tweaking some machines and because Borch can build them for this market too.”

Borch claims its presses are cost-effective and durable. Mermuys has used them since 2004, primarily for molding jobs for Tier 2 auto suppliers.
