Partnership aimed at conformal cooling

Conformal mold cooling — where chilled water flows through channels that hug the shape of the part — is getting a boost from a new partnership.

CoreTech System Co. Ltd., the Taiwanese developer of Moldex 3D mold filling software, has partnered with OPM Laboratory Co. Ltd., a Japanese company that makes equipment for a process called milling-combined laser metal sintering and conformal cooling. The companies announced the deal Nov. 19.

Conformal cooling reduced cooling time, compared to conventional machined straight channels.

“Applying simulation in the conformal cooling process has been highly desirable in the industry,” CoreTech President Venny Yang said. “We saw the need in the industry; thus, we developed its simulation technology, and debuted a 3D comformal cooling analysis in Moldex3D R11.0 early this year.”

By integrating their technologies, CoreTech and OPM want to develop an easy-to-use and multi-functional interface for users of conformal cooling.

OPM Laboratory President said the goal is “to bring a seamless workflow from design to simulation to the users of conformal cooling.”

CoreTech is based in Hsinchu City, Taiwan. OPM Laboratory is in Kyoto, Japan.

The Moldex3D North American sales and support center is in Northville, Mich.
