Softfilm, a film manufacturer in São Paulo, Brazil, is adding a third line from Davis-Standard LLC for making stretch and melt embossed film.

Softfilm bought its first Davis-Standard line in 2009, when the company first opened, and added a second line in 2010. The new line, to be installed in late 2012, is designed for producing diaper film backsheet and coated nonwovens.

The line features an unwind and a unique embossing unit to support production of a softer end product.

“This line will be beneficial in supporting our customers throughout South America,” said Softfilm President Alberto Beda. “As our business develops, we plan to add additional Davis-Standard lines. Our diaper and stretch film businesses are both doing well and we anticipate continued growth.”

In other news, Davis-Standard has added equipment at the Technical Center at company headquarters in Pawcatuck, Conn. The centerpiece is a coextruded sheet line that is 40 inches wide, equipped to run a wide range of product and thicknesses. The line has four extruders configured to run both monolayer and coextruded products. The line will have the capacity to use shear technology for thick, rigid products that cannot be wound. It also will be equipped with a cantilever winder for producing rolls of various diameters.

Other new equipment includes a medical tubing line in a clean room environment and a high-speed extruder.
