CLINTON, MASS. (Dec. 7, 2 p.m. ET) — Custom injection molder Nypro Inc. plans to expand its health-care manufacturing operations in Ireland, a spokesman confirmed.

The operation in Bray, Ireland, is a “major center for our European health-care business,” said Nypro spokesman Al Cotton.

“The operation has been able to do business with a number of major health-care businesses in Europe,” Cotton said in a telephone interview. The Bray facility is the major Nypro business in Europe and its oldest, dating to 1980.

The Bray facility will add 100 jobs to bring Nypro employment in Ireland to 460. Cotton said most new jobs likely will be added a year or more down the road since there is a time lag during which Clinton, Mass.-based Nypro will need to obtain qualifications on health-care products.

The expansion will involve capital expenditures for clean room facilities and equipment such as injection molding presses but Cotton declined to provide the cost or other details.

“Ireland’s reputation as a leading location for business and investment in the life-sciences sector is further boosted by this announcement of 100 new highly skilled jobs at Nypro’s Bray facility,” Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny said in a Dec. 7 news release issued by the Irish government. The expansion also will be supported by economic development agency IDA Ireland.

“Health care and life sciences is a key sector targeted by the government for employment growth as part of the Action Plan for Jobs,” Irish Jobs Minister Richard Bruton said in a news release.
