AKRON, OHIO (Dec. 10, 1:15 p.m. ET) — A positive North American economic outlook from an industry leader is featured in this week’s Material Insights video.

Dow Chemical Co. chairman and CEO Andrew Liveris expects the North American automotive and construction sectors to grow in 2013. Liveris also said at a recent media event that his firm’s plans to build a new plastic feedstock ethylene plant in Texas are on schedule — although he declined to say if that project will include new polyethylene production.

The restart of Evonik Industries AG’s nylon 12 feedstock plant in Marl, Germany, also is featured in this week’s video. The plant — which makes CDT — had been closed since a fatal explosion and fire in March. Repair work ended late last month, and CDT production will resume by the end of December.

The video wraps up with Geo-Tech Polymers LLC’s plans to build its second recycling plant. The second plant will cover 123,000 square feet in Waverly, Ohio, about an hour a way from the firm’s existing plant and headquarters in Westerville. Geo-Tech is receiving almost $2 million in loans from state agencies and local governments for the project.
