IOWA CITY, IOWA (Dec. 12, 10:50 a.m. ET) — Officials in Iowa City, Iowa have pushed back against a potential plastic bag ban, the Press-Citizen newspaper reported.

The city has pushed for education on plastic bags in recent years and the city's recycling coordinator said there are many locations where residents can recycle plastic bags.

Susan Mims, the city's mayor pro-tem, said she supports a plastic bag ban, but it's an issue that should be addressed on the regional level, not city-by-city, according to the newspaper.

The plastic bag ban was brought forward by a group called 100 Grannies, the newspaper reported.
