NEW DELHI (Dec. 14, 1:35 p.m. ET) — The Delhi High Court is giving the Delhi Government one week to explain why it recently passed a law that will ban manufacturing of plastic bags.

The state court asked the government to consider the impact of the law on manufacturers, and to explain why it was singling out a specific plastic product.

The All India Plastic Industries Association challenged the ban in court, saying that the Delhi state government had exceeded its jurisdiction.
