GERMANTOWN, WIS. (Dec. 14, 1:20 p.m. ET) — MGS Manufacturing Group Inc. is targeting new markets for its factory in Leixlip, Ireland, which opened in 2011 on the Hewlett-Packard campus.
MGS is targeting medical and other markets, said John Berg, marketing director of the Germantown-based injection molder and manufacturer of molds and injection units for multishot molding.
“We opened that facility with (HP) with the caveat that they not be the only customers,” Berg said.
Currently, the Ireland plant has 15 injection presses, but plans call for 24 or more, he said.
By the end of 2013, MGS expects the plant to employ about 150 people.
The Industrial Development Authority Ireland issued its own announcement recently.
Michael Cummins, the firm’s general manager, said: “We are satisfied that now is the right time to establish a new polymer injection molding and tooling facility in Leixlip. This facility will support our high-end customer base in both Ireland, where Hewlett-Packard manufacturing operations are one of MGS’s key partners, and other European markets.”
Access to a talented local workforce helped seal the deal, he added. The investment has been supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, coordinated by Industrial Development Authority Ireland.
“Manufacturing forms a key part of the government’s action plan for jobs and recently my department established a manufacturing development forum led by industry experts to drive the creation of 20,000 additional jobs in the sector across multinational as well as indigenous companies by 2016,” jobs minister Richard Bruton said in a prepared statement.
