UFP Technologies buys Packaging Alternatives

GEORGETOWN, MASS. (Jan. 3, 11:10 a.m. ET) — UFP Technologies Inc., a maker of custom packaging and specialty component products, has acquired Packaging Alternatives Corp.

Packaging Alternatives, located in Costa Mesa, Calif., is a full service designer, converter and distributor of foam plastic products, specializing in technical polyurethane foam for the medical market. The company had sales of approximately $10 million in 2011, according to a news release.

The acquisition will expand UFP’s medical business and improve the company’s covereage of the Western U.S., said R. Jeffrey Bailly, UFP’s chairman, CEO and president, in the release.

UFP, based in Georgetown, designs and manufactures its products using foams, plastics, composites and natural fiber materials. The company had annual sales of $127.2 million in 2011.
