OKLAHOMA CITY (Jan. 4, 12:05 p.m. ET) — M-D Building Products Inc. has expanded in vinyl and aluminum window components extrusion with the purchase of Loxcreen Co. Inc.

“There are a lot of synergies in manufacturing,” said M-D spokesman Brent Gooden in a telephone interview. “The purchase adds more of a national geography.”

M-D is based and does most of its manufacturing in Oklahoma City. Loxcreen has its headquarters in West Columbia, S.C.

Combined, the two firms have sales exceeding $200 million per year.

Loxcreen holds patents on window screen manufacturing. It also runs Bengard Manufacturing, an extruder of floor moldings and trim in Mississauga, Ontario. Other Loxcreen plants are in West Columbia; Chamblee, Ga.; Hubbard, Ore.; Hayti, Mo., and Dallas.

The two privately held companies employ about 800 in the United States and Canada making customized plastic extrusion and aluminum extrusion items for a range of window, flooring, door and tool products and accessories for residential and commercial construction.

“The Loxcreen acquisition and its related manufacturing, engineering and products presents a unique opportunity for us to bring two complementary and compatible businesses with strong market presence together to drive long-term growth,” stated M-D Chairman and President Loren Plotkin in a news release.

“While our emotions are mixed with selling the business after a successful 65 years of operation, we recognize the acquisition by M-D Building Products offers expanded opportunities long-term for our employees and customers,” stated Loxcreen CEO and co-owner Wayne Parrish.

M-D said Joe Comitale, president of Loxcreen Canada and Chief Operating Officer of Loxcreen Co., will continue as president of the Canadian operation and will join M-D as executive vice president.

Loxcreen bought Bengard in 2000 and when it added the Kinkead product line in 2004 it positioned itself as a leader in commercial floor moldings and related products, according to M-D.

M-D makes a variety of commercial weatherproofing products like door and window weather stripping, garage door weather stripping, pipe insulation and caulking that it markets under the Tower Sealants and DuPont names. It also makes aluminum and wood flooring components and installation tools. Its main plant is in Oklahoma City but it also does manufacturing in Gainesville, Ga.

Loren Plotkin led a management team that bought M-D from the founding Macklanburg family in 2007.
