AKRON, OHIO (Jan. 8, 12:45 p.m. ET) -- Americhem Inc.'s acquisition of Infinity Compounding LLC is featured in this week's Material Insights video. Buying Infinity of Swedesboro, N.J., is a bit of a departure for Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio-based Americhem. Infinity makes filled and reinforced compounds based on engineering resins, while Americhem to date has specialized in a wide range of color and additive concentrates. Expansions at new compounder Plastic Innovations Inc. also are featured in this week’s video. The firm was opened in Jurupa Valley, Calif., in late 2011 and already has plans to double the size of its workforce and manufacturing space during 2013. Plastic Innovations makes glass-filled grades of polypropylene, nylon and other resins. The video wraps up with news that Tim O’Brien, an executive with Sabic Innovative Plastics, is leaving that firm to head laminant surface maker Wilsonart International Holding LLC. O'Brien most recently led Sabic IP’s engineering resins business in the Americas and Europe. He has extensive experience with Sabic IP and its predecessor General Electric Co.
