Engel never sleeps, thanks to the injection press maker's e-service.24 package.

Using a remote connection, specialists from Engel Holding GmbH at eight production facilities on three continents can start looking for a cause as soon as an error message appears, as the machine requests on its own.

In the event of a failure, or the need for service, the system automatically informs the qualified plant personnel and machine operating crew by email. They then can forward the error or service message directly to the Engel experts.

If needed, Engel service engineers can give the customers instructions and explanations by audio, video or text conferencing. Documenting sharing functions make cooperation possible across thousands of miles.

The machine's control screen pages can be viewed over the Internet. An analyzing tool gives status reports and measures results. All the fix-it information is stored for full documentation.

Use of electronic communication means plastics molders can avoid a pricey and time-consuming on-site service call.

Engel is based in Schwertberg, Austria. Its U.S. headquarters, Engel Machinery Inc., is in York, Pa.

In other news, Engel Machinery and Priamus System Technologies LLC will hold a hands-on training class, Fundamentals of Scientific Molding, Feb. 19-21 in Corona, Calif., at Engel's technical center. The session, which costs $1,395, includes one day of hands-on machinery instruction and two days of classroom work, covers the correct ways to set up new combinations of machines and molds, transferring sets to any machine and troubleshooting.
