Non-genetically modified sourced PLAs available

Bioplastics developer FKuR Kunststoff GmbH has launched two products that use non-genetically modified polylactic acid.

FKuR, based in Willich, Germany, said Bio-Flex F6513 and F6611 are based on Puralact lactides from Purac, a Dutch supplier of bakery supplies and food ingredients. The PLAs can achieve heat resistance of up to 266 degrees F.

Bio-Flex F6513 is well suited to injection molding while F6611 is aimed at thermoforming. FKuR claims they are pleasing to touch, have a pearlescent gloss and are biodegradable. They combine technological performance in a polymer for brand owners and retailers demanding a GMO-free product.

Purac's high-heat polylactides have potential applications in microwaveable food packaging, beverage cups and durable items for automotive, carpet, consumer electronics and appliances

FKuR also reports it has earned the Certified Biobased Product Label for four of its bioplastics from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Products getting certification are Bio-Flex F2110 compostable resin for flexible films, Biograde C6509 CL transparent grade for injection molding, Terralene LL 1303 polyethylene for extrusion coating and laminating, and Terralene LL 1101 polyethylene for blown film.
