Propylene elastomer aids food container toughness

January 30, 2013

Propylene-based elastomer from ExxonMobil Chemical improves impact strength of food containers made by Ningbo Lisi Houseware Co. Ltd. in Zhejiang, China.

Vistamaxx PBE when added to random copolymer polypropylene also provides better lid hinge flexibility and maintains clarity, according to Houston-based ExxonMobil. The random copolymer alone can stress whiten when used for the lid hinge.

When the random copolymer is dry blended with Vistamaxx 3000 PBE or 6202 PBE, impact strength is maintained down to -4 degrees F and flexibility is boosted. Clarity of the original copolymer is virtually unchanged, according to ExxonMobil.
