WINCHESTER, VA. -- Four communities in New Jersey and New York that were hit by Hurricane Sandy in 2012 plan to rebuild coastal boardwalks using wood-alternative decking and railing from Trex Co.

Winchester-based Trex announced Feb. 7 that the projects, in total, will cover 334,000 square feet.

The projects include:

  • A 1.3 mile boardwalk in Belmar, N.J.
  • More than 3,300 square feet in Atlantic Beach, N.Y.
  • Some 1,200 square feet of boardwalk on Point Pleasant Beach in Point Pleasant, N.J.
  • A 3,000 square foot boardwalk in Sea Girt, N.J.

"It's extremely important to both the economies and collective psyche of these communities that their boardwalks are back in time for summer, and we're proud to play a role in the rebuilding efforts," said Ronald Kaplan, chairman, president and CEO of Trex, in a news release.
