WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS. -- Steinerfilm Inc., part of a German maker of capacitor films for the electronics industry, will close its only North American film plant.

Steinerfilm officials told local media that the Williamstown plant will close due to a lack of demand for its polypropylene film. The company said Feb. 8 that no one was available to discuss the local reports. Local reports said the plant employed 24.

Steinerfilm is part of Steiner GmbH & Co. KG of Erndtebrück, Germany, which also has film production in Erndtebrück and Galway, Ireland. The firm also makes polyester, polyphenylene sulfide and polyethylene naphthalate films, used for capacitors in a variety of industries.
