MELVILLE, N.Y. -- Leviton Manufacturing Co. Inc. has begun moving production of its QuickPort data communications wall plates to the U.S. from China to help it cut shipping waste, boost efficiency and locate molding closer to major customers.

Transfer of the injection molding operations began in late 2012 and continues through the early part of 2013, Leviton said in a Dec. 13 news release. The datacom wall plates will be made at its Leviton Network Solutions unit in Bothell, Wash., at a site already home to copper and fiber-optic network connectivity and power distribution units.

The Melville-based company said the shift will also improve product availability. Molding will go into new high-efficiency injection molding machines, which Leviton said use far less energy than older presses.

"This move further demonstrates Leviton's commitment to supporting the resurgence of manufacturing production in the United States," said Tim Lockard, operations director for Network Solutions.
