ANAHEIM, CALIF. -- Custom injection molder and mold maker Pacific Plastics moved about 25 miles in January to Vista, Calif., from San Diego.

The new 20,000-square-foot location has a ceiling with 22-foot clearance and overcomes power limitations in the previous height-limited 17,000-square-foot site, Jae English, president and owner, said at the WestPack trade show, held Feb. 12-14 in Anaheim.

English said a big customer for his firm was moving work back to the U.S. from China because of problems with logistics, communication issues and shipment of faulty product. "You can lose months" from a bad shipment, he said.

Pacific Plastics employs 25, operates 10 injection molding machines of 30-500 tons and had 2012 sales of about $2.2 million. Molding accounts for about 65 percent of the business with the remainder in mold making. End markets include electronics, consumer products and biomedical.
