ANAHEIM, CALIF. -- Plastics Color Corp. projects investing about $1 million over two years in expanding its isaac-brand web portal to streamline color selection and product development. More than 80,000 color formulations are available for comparison.

A cosmetics packaging company, for instance, condensed three weeks of design work into one day at the PCC solutions center in Asheboro, N.C., according to Timothy Workman, PCC vice president of business development.

"We want to put power and speed into customers' hands," Workman said during an interview and demonstration at the Plastec West trade show Feb. 12-14 in Anaheim.

PCC launched phase one of its isaac program at NPE in April and phase two at the Anaheim show. So far, PCC has invested about $100,000 for equipment, technology development and the design services of Communication Exhibits Inc. of Canal Fulton, Ohio. "CEI is on the cutting edge for trade shows and applications using different devices," Workman said. "We want to hone in on what designers want."

Four U.S. customers with global reach began phase two isaac beta trials in November. Now they and a major brand owner use the capability.

Workman contrasted the isaac plastics-related capabilities with the Pantone Matching System color swatches that need to be physically formulated for comparisons. The isaac system is totally digital.

Separately, PCC showed a silver-based MicroBlok antimicrobial formulation for plastics and indicated completing development of a zinc-based MicroBlok around May.

PCC employs 30, has operations in Calumet City, Ill.; Sun Valley, Calif.; and Nanjing, China, in addition to Asheboro. PCC is a subsidiary of PMC Global Inc.
