Material handling system features enhanced traceability

February 13, 2013

Wittmann Battenfeld Inc.'s new M7.3 central material handling system control has four options that enhance traceability: radio frequency identification (RFID) user management, lot management, WiMa Trace lot traceability and OPC connectivity.

All those features are available through a license from Wittmann Battenfeld, in Torrington, Conn.

RFID user management is personalized for each potential user of the machine, as the user simply swipes his or her tab instead of having to log in with a user name and password.

Lot management automatically interfaces with the system bar code scanner. The program will verify all scanned material changes, identify the affected equipment, and alert the user if a wrong material gets scanned.

Both the WiMaTrace and OPC options allow the M7.3 to interface with a personal computer to store data and general reports. WiMaTrace interfaces directly with Lot Management to store information gathered from the bar code scanner, into a database.

The OPC feature lets a user interface with the entire M7.3 system, typically with a third-party process monitoring software, covering every piece of data generated by the controller.
