Menges Roller Co. has expanded its services for converting companies, by now providing precision cylindrical grinding services, as well as chrome plating.

Over time, chrome-plated rollers often get dull or chipped. Menges Roller will now grind off that old chrome and apply a new chrome plating to the roller.

The company in Wauconda, Ill., points out that replacing chill rolls or heat-transfer rolls can be very expensive. The key to re-chroming a roll is to carefully remove all the worn chrome, without reducing the roller's outside shell in diameter. Very small tolerances in the thousandth of an inch range must be monitored.
