Mixing specialist Gneuss Kunststofftechnik GmbH says its MRS extrusion system is very efficient in removing oil contamination in the recycling of nylon 11 deep sea oil pipes.
Engineering polymer recycler K2 Polymers Ltd. of Loughborough, England, uses the extruder to reprocess heavily contaminated nylon 11 regrind.
The MRS multirotation system extruder carries out processing and decontamination in one step without the need for expensive prior washing. The extruder's patented processing technology has extremely high devolatisation capacity, about 25 times greater surface area exchange rate under vacuum than an equivalent twin screw extruder, claims Gneuss, which runs a North American office in Matthews, N.C.
The vacuum's efficiency allows it to remove volatiles and oil from the melt at only 25 to 40 millibars vacuum. The MRS 70 chosen by K2 Polymers has a throughput rate of 330 pounds per hour.
K2 Polymers can reprocess nylon 11 pipe to specifications suited to vacuum and compressed air hoses for automotive applications.
