LA MONTE, MO. -- Recycler Lyne Plastics LLC soon will be opening a 50,000-square-foot facility in Sedalia, Mo., and starting a new production line, according to company officials. The plant will be Lyne's second.

Lyne, based in La Monte, is a wholesale industrial recycling company. It offers toll service for plastics grinding and cleaning.

Company officials said in an email that the new line in Sedalia will be in full production by March. It will be running 24 hours a day, five days a week and will reprocess about 1 million pounds a month. They said Lyne has plans for a second line.

The company plans to create 14 new jobs in the next two years.

Lyne is co-owned by Lyman and Lesa Lyne, who serve as president and vice president, respectively.

The company was started 20 years ago when Lyman and his late father gained the opportunity to grind baby-wipe dispensers. They used the family barn and a makeshift line. With a system that included a 7½-horsepower grinder and a single 8-inch blade, they added a conveyor made from an old wringer washer and scrap iron. They used a 1930s band saw to split the lids so they could fit in the grinder.

The company moved to a 5,000-square-foot site in La Monte in 1994. One of the first jobs was to reprocess plastic outdoor lawn furniture that was piled 6 feet deep and scattered over 3 acres of land. They soon added washing and drying as well.

After getting additional capital, Lyne grew into processing 1 million pounds of plastic a year.

The project has an estimated capital investment of $1.2 million. The Department of Economic Development has authorized an incentive package that includes $57,602 in Enhanced Enterprise Zone program tax credits over five years.

The company credited Pettis County and Sedalia officials for helping to make the move possible.
