Bayer MaterialScience LLC has developed a new polycarbonate grade that addresses key demands in medical end-uses.

Makrolon Rx2440 is a clear, high-flow PC offering fast recovery time in color shift. It can be sterilized with gamma rays or e-beams and is suited to applications requiring biocompatibility.

“With its outstanding combination of rigidity, toughness, high flow and unique color-recovery after irradiation, Makrolon Rx2440 addresses two simultaneous trends – designers taking advantage of polycarbonate’s high stiffness to design thinner walls and molders requiring ever-more productivity,” states Bruce Fine, market segment leader for medical and consumer products for the Pittsburgh, Pa., firm, in a news release.

Targeted applications include intravenous access equipment and respiratory, surgical and renal care.
