Teknor Apex Co. has two new PVC elastomers that provide low-temperature flexibility for cable jacketing.

The Pawtucket, R.I., company claims Flexalloy 9611-76 and 9612-75 compounds have a property profile similar to more expensive materials such as rubber, thermoplastic polyurethane and other elastomers widely used in such applications. They exhibit brittle points of -76 degrees F. and provide oil resistance and flame retardance for control and instrumentation cables and specialty power cords to charge electric vehicles.

“Cables for these applications are often large and can be difficult to handle – especially at low temperatures – if the jacket materials lack sufficient flexibility,” explains Mike Patel, industry manager for Teknor’s vinyl division.
