ENKA, N.C. — Southeastern Container Inc. is closing its Beloit, Wis., facility, and moving operations to its other Midwestern plants, according to WARN Act notice filed with the state.

Southeastern will shift production from Beloit to plants in Bowling Green, Ohio, and Effingham, Ill.

"We regret that we have to make this decision; however, for economic and business reasons we no longer need three production plants in the Midwest," wrote Michelle Yanik, vice president of human resources, in a letter to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.

Yanik could not be reached for comment March 8.

The plant closure will affect 47 employees. They will have the opportunity to apply for positions at the Bowling Green and Effingham plants or elsewhere in the company.

Southeastern will begin shutting down the facility April 29.

Southeastern, based in Enka, N.C., supplies PET bottles to Coca-Cola Co. It is North America's eighth largest blow molder with estimated annual sales of $700 million, according to the most recent Plastics News ranking.

Southeastern has 10 plants in North America and about 800 employees.
