Commodore Plastics LLC has developed expanded polystyrene foam label stock that helps keep beverages colder longer.

Labec labels are suited to insulate aluminum, glass and PET beverage containers.  The label also provides protection against breakage if a glass container shatters. The Bloomfield, N.Y., firm claims its tests have shown the EPS labels can keep beverages cold for 15 to 20 minutes longer than when the label is not applied to the container. The tests were conducted for temperatures rising 20-30 degrees F above the initial cold temperature.

Commodore says the labels can be printed, hot-stamped, metallized and embossed to achieve aesthetic aims. The insulation ability also cuts down on condensation versus an unprotected container.

“The labels can improve recyclability of containers, if left on aluminum cans or ground up with glass bottles,” states Commodore Plastics President Brad Braddon in a news release. “The fuel value of the label replaces 5 to 8 percent of the natural gas used in recycling.”
