WILMINGTON, MASS. — Steve Braig, president and CEO of Trexel Inc., has been appointed to the U.S. Department of Commerce's 26-member Manufacturing Council.

The Manufacturing Council was established in 2004 to foster regular communication between the U,S. government and the manufacturing sector. It is directed by the Department of Commerce's International Trade Administration.

Trexel, based in Wilmington, had led the development of the MuCell microcellular foaming technology.

"I will have an opportunity to represent the interests of the plastics industry on the council and speak to the issues that are important to our industry, including workforce development, access to cheap energy and free-trade agreements, among others," Braig said.

U.S. Deputy Secretary of Commerce Rebecca Blank announced Braig's appointment to the Manufacturing Council on March 14. He was nominated as a candidate last November.

Braig also serves on the executive board of the Society of the Plastics Industry Inc. of Washington.

A native of Switzerland, Braig joined Trexel in 2010. Before that, he was CEO of Engel North America, the supplier of injection molding machines in York, Pa.
