SAN RAFAEL, CALIF.—Autodesk Inc., the maker of three-dimensional design and engineering software, has completed its acquisition of Firehole Technologies, doing business as Firehole Composites, which specializes in design and analysis software for composite materials.

Firehole Composites is based in Laramie, Wyo.

Autodesk, of San Rafael, expands its technology for the next generation of lighter, stronger materials.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Autodesk is publicly traded on the Nasdaq, Firehole Composites is privately held.

"As manufacturers move to more complex material such as lightweight composites, new simulation technology is required to predict and optimize the performance of these materials," said Buzz Kross, senior vice president for design, lifecycle and simulation products at Autodesk. "This acquisition will enable Autodesk to deliver this technology to a broad spectrum of design and engineering industries."

Autodesk officials plan to sell the support the existing Firehole Composites product line, which includes Helius: MCT and Helius:CompositePro, and closely integrate the software with Autodesk products.
