High quality, cost-effective recycled nylon is being debuted by Teknor Apex Co.

The Pawtucket, R.I., materials supplier is formulating recycled nylon into nylon compounds and giving it the level of quality assurance the firm provides for its range of products. Consistent high quality allows customers to create more environmentally friendly goods.

Teknor Apex can vary the percentage loadings of recycled nylon in its Recyclon series of compounds. Applications range from automotive components where use of recycled resin is mandated to consumer and industrial products where cost reduction is important. The firm says one early use is in components for lawn furniture.

Scott E. Fleming, vice president of Teknor Apex’s nylon division, states in a news release that Recyclon complements his company’s Chemlon nylon compounds series that finds wide use in automotive markets.

“The Recyclon product range provides a new option for balancing cost and value,” Fleming explained.

An important raw material source for Recyclon is carpet made from nylon 6 and nylon 66. Teknor Apex says it has supply agreements with carpet reclaim companies to ensure a stable supply of nylon fibers.
