MUTTENZ, SWITZERLAND – Clariant International AG, the Swiss chemicals group, has bought Bayer AG's nano-silver ink technology business for an undisclosed sum.

The deal for the activities, grouped under the name Bayink, covers all patents, 'know-how' and materials.

Nano silver inks, which are highly conductive, are printable on substrates such as polymers or silicon and can be applied to applications such as printed circuit boards and photovoltaic panels.

Frank Kuber, head of Clariant's new business development division said: "Nano inks are an important step to develop a sustainable innovation platform for functional inks in addition to our product portfolio for printing inks."

These would "provide unique solutions to our customers using our core competencies in surfactants and formulation technology", he added.
