SALEM, ORE. — Officials in Oregon said the state's electronics recycling program collected 26.7 million pounds of material in 2012, up 3 percent over 2011.

The figures were released by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality, which administers the E-Cycles Program. The program includes a network of more than 250 collection points throughout the state which accepts computers, monitors and televisions for free for the consumer. Electronics manufacturers collect and recycle the materials and pay registration fees to cover costs to run the program.

The program is in its fifth year.

The new mark of collection means the program collects 6.9 pounds of electronics for each resident in the state. That rate is among the highest in the nation, according to DEQ.
