MEXICO CITY – Exhibitors at the four-day Plastimagen México 2013 trade show did 25 percent more business than during the exhibition's previous edition 18 months earlier, the organizer, E.J. Krause de México, said April 4.

The figure of $150 million is $30 million more than the $120 million worth of deals negotiated during each one of the previous three Plastimagen México shows — in 2008, 2010 and 2011 — according to the exhibition company, a wholly owned subsidiary of E.J. Krause & Associates Inc, of Bethesda, Md.

In a news release it also said 27,600 people visited the show from March 12-15, the same number as in 2011, give or take a few hundred, and 86 percent of the visitors were executives with purchasing powers, compared with 69 percent in 2011.

Mexico's plastics processing industry is expected to grow by 6 percent in 2013, compared with 5.7 percent in 2012, E.J. Krause de México said.

In 2012 the sector processed 4.7 million metric tons of resins, positioning Mexico as the world's 12th largest manufacturer of finished plastics products, according to the company.

Plastimagen México 2013 featured 800 exhibitors from 21 countries and covered 301,400 square feet of the Centro Banamex exhibition center in Mexico City.

It also featured 12 international pavilions, from Austria, Brazil, Canada, China (with two), France, India, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Taiwan and the United States.

The next edition of the show is scheduled for Nov. 18-21, 2014.
