CINCINNATI — Procter & Gamble Co., an international manufacturer of personal care and household products, now sends zero manufacturing waste to landfill at 45 sites worldwide, the company announced.

P&G has reduced its total waste by 68 percent over the past five years, according to a company news release. At the 45 zero waste sites, waste from the manufacturing process is recycled, repurposed or converted into energy, with less than 1 percent leaving as waste.

The company's long-term environmental goals include achieving zero waste at all of its manufacturing plants and using 100 percent renewable or recycled materials in all products, according to its website.

"We have a vision for the future, where plants are powered by renewable energy, products are made from recycled and renewable materials and resources are conserved, with no manufacturing or consumer waste going to landfill," P&G President and CEO Bob McDonald said in the release. "Changing the way we see waste as a company has brought us one step closer to this goal at 45 sites worldwide."
