FORTVILLE, IND. — Genesis Plastics Welding is investing about $3.3 million to expand, renovate and equip its site in Fortville, Ind.
Medical applications make up about 80 percent of Genesis' sales.
The contract plastics welder is adding a 2,600-square-foot, Class 7 clean room that will be operational by May, President and CEO Tom Ryder said in an interview. Genesis already has two 1,000-square-foot Class 7 clean rooms.
In October, Genesis completed a 27,000-square-foot addition and upgrades to its original 15,000-square-foot plant, at which time it vacated 13,000 square feet of rented space.
The firm, which now employs 87, is hiring for engineering, research and development, and prototyping positions.
Ryder said Genesis is looking for 20-25 percent growth in 2013 vs. 2012. That increase will include new opportunities in energy and sustainability markets, he said. He would not disclose sales.
Genesis received certification earlier this year under ISO 13485:2003.
"We appreciate the suppliers and those in material development who have allowed us to explore less-expensive, better-quality materials for product improvements," Ryder said.
