Clariant says it has extended the sustainability of premium coatings by introducing UV stabilizers for waterborne, external coatings.
Hostavin 3330 disp. XP and 3070 disp. XG are aimed at clear and pigmented waterborne coatings for applications such as coatings employed by automotive OEMs on plastic parts. Growing use of waterborne coatings in external uses relies partly on better UV stabilization.
3330 is the first high-loaded (52 percent) dispersion of a triazine class UV absorber that features high thermal stability and durability. It mixes well with binders and does not contain volatile organic compounds.
3070 enhances formulations with high thermal stability combined with excellent migration resistance. Its non-threatening toxicological profile frees it up from hazard labeling, according to Clariant, based in Muttenz, Switzerland.
"Clariant's advances in light stabilization are driving forward waterborne coatings into premium segments, until now the exclusive area of solvent-borne systems," noted Jean-Yves Desrats, technical marketing manager for business unit additives. "The request for more sustainable and eco-responsible additives is increasingly relevant for all manufacturers and the markets they serve."
