JEFFERSONTOWN, KY. — Jones Plastic & Engineering LLC's Rev-A-Shelf housewares business is expanding in Europe with the acquisition of Widmer GmbH of Altach, Austria.
Rev-A-Shelf has also announced plans to buy land near Jeffersontown, for future manufacturing production in the U.S.
Jones Plastic, based in Jeffersontown, has five molding operations in addition to its Rev-A-Shelf subsidiary, making a variety of housewares storage and organization products. Widmer, a home products company in Altach, Austria, has its own line of cabinet storage systems including an injection molded Lazy Susan.
The acquisition will provide a base for Rev-A-Shelf to "transition" into the European cabinet industry, said David Noe, general manager of Rev-A-Shelf, in a press release. The European business will operate as Widmer By Rev-A-Shelf GmbH. Widmer founder Guenter Widmer will remain with the company as general manager, overseeing daily operations.
The acquisition comes just a month after Rev-A-Shelf announced it would break ground on a 315,000-square-foot building in Kentucky that will allow the firm to consolidate three factories into one building. The 30½ -acre site will also provide space for future expansion.
The building will house an expanded testing facility, showrooms and a training operation. The company said in a March 4 press release that it expects to break ground in early May and complete construction in early 2014.
