ADDISON, ILL. — Rollprint Packaging Inc. is investing $1.25 million in a multi-configuration pouch manufacturing line to make products primarily for sterile medical applications.

The Ritemed 900 CHB machine from Water Line SA of Mezzovico, Switzerland, will be installed in Rollprint’s Addison clean room and be operational by the end of the year.

According to Rollprint, the machine can run up to 100 cycles per minute and handle up to five webs simultaneously, including paper, foil, DuPont Co.’s Tyvek-brand uncoated nonwoven synthetic fiber material, polypropylene and polyethylene films. It also features non-contact web cleaner and has data monitoring and collecting capabilities.

The machine has a width of 1 meter and can output several thousand pouches per minute. Once it’s installed, Rollprint expects overall production to increase by as much as 25 percent.

After announcing the creation of its  ISO Class 8  clean room last year, Rollprint received “overwhelming response” from medical-device manufacturers. The new capabilities have driven demand for more capacity, leading Rollprint to make another sizeable investment, said Doug Dodrill, vice president of technology.

The 6,000-square-foot clean room, which opened last fall, already houses five production lines that make a variety of sterile medical pouch structures.

Based in Addison, Rollprint supplies flexible packaging materials for health-care, industrial and food applications.
