TOKYO — Sumitomo Bakelite Co. Ltd. has reorganized its performance plastics unit and opened a sales office and warehouse in India.

The new unit will operate as Sumitomo Bakelite High Performance Plastics and will highlight global sales, marketing and manufacturing of the firm’s phenolic resins, molding compounds and circuitry materials, officials said in an April 9 news release.

The location in New Delhi, India, will serve the needs of customers in the region for plastics and associated materials, officials said. Tokyo-based Sumitomo Bakelite is a global leader in production of thermoset resins and related products. The firm had sales of almost $1.4 billion in the final nine months of 2012.
