CAMBRIDGE, MASS. — Saudi Basic Industries Corp. will work with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on processes that use unconventional feedstocks to meet “important global needs.”

Sabic — the Riyadh, Saudi Arabia-based firm that ranks as a leading maker of polyethylene and ethylene feedstock — announced the agreement in an April 7 news release.

“Along with focusing on the important areas of developing unconventional feedstocks and innovative new material solutions, Sabic will also focus on innovating in multiple parts of the energy equation,” Sabic’s Ernesto Occhiello said in the release. Occhiello serves as the firm’s executive vice president of technology and innovation.

Cambridge, Mass.-based MIT ranks as one of the world’s leading research centers and engineering schools. The institute has produced 17 Nobel Prize winners.
