AKRON, OHIO — Still more potential new polyethylene capacity for North America is featured in this week's Material Insights video.

LyondellBasell Industries may be adding as much as 1.2 billion pounds of new PE capacity in the form of a new plant and a debottlenecking, officials said at a recent company event. Feedstock advantages supplied by new natural gas are prompting the move. There are at least eight firms now planning to add PE capacity in the region.

PlastiComp LLC's addition of a new compounding line also is featured in this week's video. The Winona, Minn.-based firm needs the 5 million pound-capacity line to handle new business in medical, energy and sporting goods markets, officials said.

The video wraps up with news that Toray Industries Inc. is working with Genomatica to develop a PBT resin with some bio-based content. The material equaled oil-based PBT in bench-scale testing.
