BENSHEIM, GERMANY — German plastic packaging manufacturer Sanner GmbH is focusing on expanding in Asia after seeing its total corporate sales increase 12.5 percent to 50.6 million euros ($62.3 million) in 2012.

The Bensheim-based company attributed the sales growth to a strong presence in the Asian market as well as production in China.

The company opened an injection molding and injection blow molding plant in Kunshan, China, in 2000, and now plans to double production there. The Kunshan plant currently employs 100, and includes a class 100,000 clean room.

Sanner also opened a sales office in Indonesia in 2012.

In the rest of the world, the firm modernized a plant in Hungary and signed a sales agreement for the U.S. market with Chicago-based Berlin Packaging LLC in 2012.

Over the year, the firm increased its workforce by 6 percent.

Sanner, which is family owned, was established in 1894. The company serves the pharmaceutical and medical markets, and specializes in desiccant closures.

Sanner molds more than 2 billion plastic components annually, and employs 430 in Germany, China, Indonesia, India, Hungary and the United States.
