MEXICO CITY — Global Closure Systems, established after French private equity firm PAI Partners purchased Philadelphia-based Crown Holding Inc’s plastics closure business for $750 million in 2005, is in the middle of a major expansion of its manufacturing operations in Mexico.

In a news release it said it has completed the expansion of its Zeller Plastik México SA de CV plant in Cuautitlán Izcalli, an industrial zone just north of Mexico City.

“GCS plans to further expand its manufacturing operations in Mexico by 2017,” Sandy Almirall, the company’s vice president for the Americas, said in the release.

GCS is headquartered in the Parisian suburb of Saint Cloud. It said the Mexican facility’s production area had grown by 30 percent while warehousing space had increased by 25 percent. “GCS can now operate up to 40 injection [molding] machines and over 30 machines for its complementary process station,” the company said.

It makes injection molded hinged closure systems and assembly systems at the plant, one of about two dozen it operates in Europe, Asia and the Americas.

According to the company, it produces 40 billion plastic and metal closures across the world every year, has annual sales of $736 million and employs 3,600. Its clients are in the beverage, food, health care, household/industry, personal care, and wine and spirits markets.
