DELAVAN, WIS. — Custom molder Vision Plastics Inc. recently broke ground on an 18,600 square foot addition that will boost the size of its facility nearly 50 percent and provide more engineering and production space.

“We actually started pushing dirt yesterday. We’ll pour concrete next week and put up the building by the first week of June, so we can finish the inside in July. We hope to be in by August,” said President Craig Hubertz  said in a May 8 telephone interview.

The company occupies a 40,000 square foot facility and has been adding equipment in recent years to meet growing demand. Hubertz said the company will install three new JSW all-electric molding machines in the new space. The new area will also include more white room or environmentally controlled space.

He said the machines will boost its number of presses to 30, and that half of them will be all-electric. Overall, Vision has presses ranging from 30 to 650 tons of clamping force. They are also adding Sepro robotic equipment, as well as an overhead crane.

Hubertz said Vision has concentrated on offering services to help its customers from concept to manufacturing. The company has boosted its engineering staff, including adding a tooling engineer manager. Overall, the company employs 75.

“We can build the mold or offshore it in China — we put a lot of effort to make tool procurement easier,” he said.

Hubert said this is the company’s third expansion since 2000. He credited the ability to grow with current customers as contributing to its rise in business. He said LED lighting has been particularly strong, but the company operates in diverse markets, including automotive.

He said sales have rising steadily since 2010 and that “2013 looks to be a banner year.”
