Trendelkamp Technologie GmbH, born in Germany as a blacksmith shop in 1897 when Bernhard Trendelkamp took over the business, grew to become a maker of melt filtration equipment for plastics extrusion, including screen changers, diverter valves, vacuum units, mixing silos and pellet classifiers.
Trendelkamp began making melt filtration products in 1988. In 1995, the family-owned company opened a U.S. subsidiary in Norcross, Ga.
Last year, Josef Trendelkamp Jr., great grandson of the founder, joined the company as vice president. He is responsible for Norcross operation, called Trendelkamp LP, which serves North and South America.
Trendelkamp offers a variety of screen changers for continuous and discontinuous applications for engineering resins. Applications range from master batches, compounding, polymerization, recycling and extrusion of sheet and blown film.
The company’s patented rectangular breaker plate gives a filtration area 40 percent larger than traditional designs with round breaker plates, and 50 percent reduction in pressure drop through the breaker plate.
Short flow borings in the breaker plate reduce the shear stress on the polymer, according to the company. The design gives a constant downstream pressure and more consistent production.
