TPE fits stringent medical standards

Kraiburg TPE GmbH & Co. KG says its Thermolast M thermoplastic elastomer was recently given expanded certifcation for processing and up to direct contact with blood or medicine.

Medical approvals make the TPE suited to seals for infusion systems, medical tubes and functional parts in dialysis machines and surgical areas.

The Waldkraiburg, Germany, firm says Thermolast M is available in the complete hardness range of Shore A and is useful in multi-component injection molding where they can adhere to polyethylene, polypropylene, polycarbonate and ABS. The TPEs can be gamma sterilized and sterilized by gas or steam at up to 273 degrees F.
