KraussMaffei Berstroff’s new Schaumex ISO-PAC foam extrusion lines offer an eco-friendly and cost-effective way to produce cap seals from low-expansion polyethylene foam, according to the company in Hannover, Germany.
Demand is growing for the foam seals in screw caps for bottles, containers and jars.
Single-screw Schaumex extruders combine all process steps in a single machine: compounding, injection of blowing agents to the final cooling stage. Those steps are even more important when using carbon dioxide as a blowing agent in expanded products. The CO2 blowing agent is introduced through a special injection system in the central section of the extruder barrel. The processing zone after the injection point is equipped with a fluid temperature control to cool down the melt with the bloweing agent.
Matthias Reimker, project manager for foam extrusion lines at KraussMaffei Berstroff, reports that the company has sold four Shaumex lines to customers in Asia and eastern Europe.
KraussMaffei Berstorff’s U.S. unit, Krauss-Maffei Corp., is in Florence, Ky.
