AKRON, OHIO — New projects in the recycling and bioplastics sectors are featured in this week's Material Insights video.

MBA Polymers Inc. plans to add U.S. recycling sites as soon as the firm can develop adequate sourcing, according to President Mike Biddle. The firm already operates a massive recycling plant in England and a smaller plant in China. MBA's R&D operations also are being moved from California to the English plant.

An investment of more than $8 million in a bioplastics plant in New York state also is featured in this week's video. Trellis Earth Products Inc. will make the investment at a former Eastman Kodak plant in Gates, N.Y., near Rochester. The plant will employ almost 200, making starch-filled polypropylene and downstream products.

The video wraps up with compounding-related items from Alliance Polymers & Services LLC and Oxford Industries. Romulus, Mich.-based Alliance recently began offering its own line of thermoplastic polyurethane compounds under the Zythane trade name. Oxford — an engineering resins compounder — is investing almost $500,000 in a new twin-screw extrusion line that will add eight million pounds of annual capacity at its plant in New Britain, Conn.
